My son and I hit the old 164 acre farm spot again yesterday, and found a few neat things. I couldn't fit it in one post with all the pictures, so I'll post our other finds in a separate one.
We decided to head into the woods to have a look around. Some great rock formations, and dried up creeks back there that I'll have to check out later.
*Our first find was an animal skull, which I'm thinking is a deer. Who knows where the rest of the bones went?
*The farmer must have really enjoyed his liquor too, because we came across a spot were we found about 40 asst'd bottles just laying around the surface. Now I know why I keep digging up his missing keys. ;D I'm not sure what kind of booze all these are, but some said "wine" on them. Most said "4/5th quart" , and came in clear, brown, and green. Some had metal screw caps, and some had no threads on the bottles.
Can anyone identify what we found? Old?
*We were able to get the metal plates unlodged from where they had fused together with the oak tree. I'm assuming they are just farm related pieces. No hidden cache under them. Darn. >:(
*I also took some shots of an old fence that goes right through the center of some trees. I thought this was a pretty neat sight.
All in all a fun day with my son.
I'll put up more in a separate post.
Thanks,
MM

Looks like prohibition whiskey and wine bottles, Very Nice!!!

sure is fun, Good finds,

Fossis..........................

MM! :o Oh my GAWD what a great bottle find! Thats awesome buddy... ;D

It's pretty rare to find all the bones of our dear departed deer in teh wild as scavengers and predators drag body arts away to hide or eat. Bones end up fairley scattered.

Man I wish I could hunt that place.

Nice day out! HH, Mike

Federal Law Prohibits Sale or Reuse of this Bottle"

If your bottle has these words embossed it was made between 1932 - 1964

These words were required on liquor bottles after prohibition was lifted.

Looks like you have a great place to hunt. Congrats

Gypsy,
That's exactly what they say. Thank you. Any idea if they are worth anything? I hate to drag them out of the woods for nothing. ;D

That bottle appears to be hand blown with 'applied mouth' I don't see seams in the glass and there is a large pontil dome in the bottom. The bottle also appears to be out of form, "not straight". Not sure of how to date it, but, the one I had was a cork style 'applied mouth'. GREAT BOTTLE!!!

Sorry didn't see this thread.

Great job! An entire bottle collection all at once. ;)

Great finds, on a side note what digging tool is that?

Hey MM... Those bottles make great sun catchers, or - targets. I'm sure you'll enjoy them somehow!

MM, that popup is not a pontil, it is to make the shipping container smaller. The top of one bottle fits into the bottom of another. Bongo

Bongo,
You know your bottles. My Dad told me the same thing this afternoon, and that man knows his booze. ;D
Thanks,
MM

XD,
It is the latest in hi-tech digging equipment. It's a "Dirt Driller 2007" model.
O.K., I'm full of cr-p. It's actually a standard digging tool that I stuck one of those rubber chair leg bumper pieces on. :D I was getting blisters before, so this rubber piece added more surface area when I pushed down into the dirt. No more blisters, and only cost a few bucks.
Thanks for asking.

MM,

sound like you and the son have an excellent
location.

Very nice group of bottles.

You jest? Very nice. ;D

have a good un................................

MM, I think the two pieces you have at the base of the the tree are, plow points. Are the points still on them,or broke off ? Possibly horse drawn plow ? The "straps" look like the piece that held the rains on the harness, about the right size for them.

Thanks Papa.
I think I've found enough farm pieces now to start my own farm. ;D
Moooooooooooo.

Man, you have a great site there.

I'm guessing that the skull is a deer. Just by the shape and where it was found. As for the bottles, the first thing that popped into my mind was moonshiners. Don't know if they were common in your area or not. I have no clue on the value of them. Nice bottle cache to find them all unbroken

The metal at the base of the tree, I think are from an old plow. Not sure of age.

Hope it helps.
