I am new to the metal detecting hobby and just noticed this discussion on bottles???
are a lot of these old bottles worth any serious $??? i am currently metal detecting a few early 1800 sites and there are quite a few bottles all over the place mostly over the hill towards the rear of the sites along with what looks like junk stuff that was thrown out, i never really payed that much attention to them but i did notice a huge pile of tiny bottles that looked like spice or medicine containers, if i take some pics tonight can someone tell me if i should be picking these up, im more of a thrill seeker cache hunter and i didnt get into this hobby for $ but id hate to be walking by anything thats worth any deal of $i could sell in lots. I did however bring one huge blue glass jug home to put my collection of junk coins in.

I would take home all of the bottles. Place the clear ones in a sunny place they will turn purple if they are older. It sounds like they are older so should be worth the trouble. Post some pics and I'm sure you'll get responses. Sounds like a sweet spot amigo

Hi Dan,
I check this site about once a month, give or take, so I didn't see your message until today.
I grew up outside Clarkston.
I live outside Otisville, now (north of Davison).
Would you please email me at bottldigr@aol.com, and we'll yak.
You'll get straight answers from me and I'll tell you about the Flint Antique Bottle Club.
Bill
