One of the banks I deal with called me and said the box I ordered was in....well I go there and the darn thing didn't have a top on it....they took/cut it off. I'm thinking to myself....what the he**??? All of the boxes I have bought have been unopened....sealed and there is that date on them.

Has anyone ever had this happen? Is this common? They were wrapped in that tight wrap roll like the normal box wraps...whatever that wrap type of roll is called.

I asked the teller if they had any large dollars and she immediately told me they buy them as soon as they get them which made me even more curious about this topless box. I know where the bump will be tomorrow....lol.

I did find a 64 and 4-40% from that box. Monday & todays total yielded 19 silver coins....the 1 90% and 18-40% along with a 1988-S and a 2003-D.

If anyone has an idea of the missing top...please advise. Thanks.

Hey there;
Ive had that happen to me at BofA.they tried to sell me a box that was open and the top missing,best of all all the rolls were machine rolled on one end and hand closed on the other,they were searched before.I refused to purchase them.then found out a employee searched them before I bought them.They were a bit pissed but oh well...they ordered me another box.I wont except them now if the seals are broken and the teller I work with at one bank knows this now.If i get one with a seal broken,they keep them and I tell her to have a nice day...hope this helps..
DONT TAKE THEM IF THE SEAL IS BROKEN OR CUT OFF.

That just amazes me that they could be so bold. I mean they are in the buisness of customer service!!! How freakin' dumb do you have to be to do that! If they are coin collectors themself which obviously they are if they are going through rolls, that takes some balls. I would tell them you don't want your boxes tampered with when you order them. If you are still finding silver fine.

I would probably take an open box as long as the rolls were intact. If they had been opened, never.

I had a teller admit to me today that she does go thru rolls in the vault. It was at a bank I'd never been to before, and I'm not sure I'll go back, either.

I have gotten 6 shotgun rolls with the side split, a nice stright cut, then taped over. Didn't cut the ends either, just the side so they could see the edges. I bought them anyway, they are looking for silver only, who knows what got left behind?

one question.
If the tellers are going through the rolls and putting them back in the wrappers, are they doing this on the banks time?

That is almost as bad as what I am doing now. (typing this question on company time ;) gotta go lots of work)

I never would have bought them. Say to them. Whats the deal with these rolls? why are they tampered with? How do I know there are $10 in halfs are there? Let me talk to your manager! I mean what do you think the bank would say if they got a bunch of rolls back that were taped up?

Update...the six rolls yielded one 2002 and that is the end of buying previously searched rolls. On the bright side, I also got two hand rolled halves, that gave up 3x 40%, 1x 65 and 2x67. Bongo
