Bought my first box of RC's today

Hi, im new to this website and fairly new to coin collecting(about a year) i have found a few gems at the bank but in loose coins the tellers had, so after reading some of the posts on this website i tried for the box thing. So i went to Bank atlantic today, only bank in my area open on sunday, I tried to buy a box of quarters, dimes and pennies but they only had a box of dimes available, which i thought was odd, im sure they have boxes of all nominations in the back, but anyway got a box of brinks dimes in clear plastics so i didnt even have to open them up, me and my son looked thru them and the only thing we found was a peru centimo penny, NO SILVER so i'll be returning this box tomorow and see if i can swap it for another or do you think i should seperate the box and dump a few here and there? whats your thoughts? Luckily i have about 30 banks in a 5 square mile radius... Any tips or advice would absolutely be appreciated. Thanks

Box of RC ?? Rookie CArds??...lol..
Welcome to the forum.
My dime box average is 1 silver per box.
CWR dime about 1 silver per $120.
Good luck in ur future search.

Re: Bought my first box of RC's today

If it's a full box we just call them boxes as opposed to bags or customer wrapped rolls (cwr's).

Whatever you do, do NOT bring the coins back to the same bank you got them at. That's a good way to get cut off and just bad crh etiquette. Happy hunting and good luck! Getting skunked is common, expect it 50% of the time.

edit: almost forgot a huge bit of advice... find out the coin suppliers of the banks you pickup and dump at (brinks, loomis, strings, garda, and etc). Never dump at a bank with the same supplier as your pickup bank.

Re: Bought my first box of RC's today

Welcome to the forum, and my thoughts for you are as followed:

1. Do not dumb these coins at the same bank you picked them up from
2. If you haven't already, open up these rolled coins, do not leave them in the plastic, in my area I have a difficult time dumping the coins while they are still in the plastic wrap
3. Once the coin wrappers are opened dump them into either a box or a bag and bring them to a free coin counter(If you have one, if not roll them up in paper rolls and dumb them at another branch)

Hope this helps

Re: Bought my first box of RC's today

So far i like the advice guys, i havnt dumped them yet and figured not to bring them to the same bank, wow so it would be easier to bring the loose coins to the bank then leaving them in the plastics, hmmm... i was going to open them just to search for proofs and such but thought it was easier to just look at the edges but guess i'll be opening them up... will proofs have the half silver color half copper color reeds as well?? Funny thing is my bank i use is the most annoyed at me for asking for coins, i even had a teller say to me, after not going there for 2 weeks, "you always ask if we have coins and we always tell you no, why do you keep asking"!!! yeah well i spoke to the bank manager about that one.. i think i'll be dumping my loose dimes at her counter tomor morning..lol..
