I was at a bank today that I regularly go to (just for banking) and I asked if they had any halves. They only had about $4 loose so I took them--one of the halves was actually a 64 Kennedy. When he put them on the counter to count them I heard that "ping" sound and knew it was silver, I thought probably a 40%er but was happy it was a 90%er instead.

The teller then said they had $75 in old silver dollars. At first I thought he might have meant Morgans or Peace dollars and I almost had a stroke. Then he showed them to me and I saw they were Eisenhowers. I took them all.

No proofs and I don't think any rare years. I need to go through them and see if there are any worth anything. Most look like 71s and 76s.

At least I got a 64 Kennedy with no real effort.

Hey congrats on that nice scalp Jim... and kudos on those Ikes I have only found 26 of them in the wild ..... look through the 72s for the King of the Ikes ... it is the type 2 variety there is some nice guides on ebay about them ... as far as the 76s there are 2 varieties of them ...I have a pile of those but they are not worth much ... anyways if you have some high grade Ikes keep them because if they are in MS they are worth some nice $$$$$.... Good job on the Ikes. I grab all I can while I am at the bank. I am trying to build one roll of each year/mint/type of coin, and I just spend the rest when I am out and about. it is fun to see how people react when they see these coins!

Aaaah....the sound of silver!! WTG Jim......never hurts to ask huh.

In my bag of Ikes that I picked up Friday there is about two rolls of MS 1978 coins. They are really nice. I did find another 1973. I just did a quick run through. I don't think there is any silver in there but I will go back through them for types.

Cat,

Is it difficult to get a bank to order a bag of Ikes? I have not tried that yet. Some on here have said that some tellers are unaware that they can order them. I may try it hopefully to get either some silver ones or BU condition Ikes. Is there a fee to get them to order the Ikes?

Jim

Tellers do not know they can order them. You have to tell them that you know Ikes are not on their order forms and ask them to call their delievery people to order them for you. I have never paid a fee for them and I have gotten about $4,000 now.

Good Luck
Let me know if you want some of mine. Not sure what I will do with them.

Congrats on the "64" half Jim. Like you say at least you found something.

my local dealer pays $1.10 for IKES so if I find em, I buy em and sell them to him for an easy 10% profit
