I bought this from a coworker that's in his mid 50s. He told me it was his dads from the late 50s early 60s. Long story short he brought it in for me told me to check it out. Got it home laid it next to my $150 takedown. My $150 bow looked like a child's toy compared to this one. So went in the next day offered $60 and now it's mine. Trying to figure out what company made it and when? Thanks

After further research I think I was right first time - I bet you a dollar it's a Root Rangemaster made in July of 1966. Letter is the month and first number is the year. G = 7 (July) and 6 = 1966.

Here is a sample of another Root Rangemaster from February 1964.

Bear never made a grip that high or a tip that fine (and the Little Bear never grew to 66" - they were 48"). Root made a HELL of a nice bow. I have a 1966 Root Hunter (58") that has very similar looking tips. Ernie Root assisted in the design of the Shakespeare line of recurves after he semi-retired. It is about identical to my Shakespeare Necedah.

They are classic and respected but not as collectable as Bear bows. Shoot better, though. ;-)

Here it is with the new string. Perfect working order I might have to lock the cat in the bathroom. And set up my little indoor range since it's freaking freezing outside.

Looks like a swift wing bow. Sold by amf. Not sure if someone else made it. Crazy thing is, I found mine under the insulation in my attic when I bought my house. Brought it to a sportin* store and was offered 300 for it. Looked brand new. I kept it and had it strung. I shoot it sometimes. Think he said it was made in the 70’s. Swift was the original maker. They are killer bows
