I stumbled across this brachiopod shell in my yard the other day. Nothing too unusual, I have lots of rock full of these. However I usually find them embedded in rock and without both halves. It is about 3/4 of an inch in diameter.

I am not skilled at fossil identification. I would guess this is probably from the Ordovician period based on what I know about the geology of where I live.
