Hi.
Got a new permission today from coworker. 1860 circa farmhouse. Great history linking it to the Underground Railroad. Anyways, poked around for an hour today, never seen a site with so much iron, very frustrating even with a 5x8 coil on ATPro. No silver today or any older coins for that matter. Only had an hour to hunt and will be back for sure....I did find this interesting brass buckle @ 8" and was wondering is anyone can determine the time period? Thanks for looking !

Can you post a back photo? Perhaps close up of the fasteners on the clover and mounts for rhinestones .

The shape looks modern 70's or newer

I think that the style of the clasp dates it to Victorian times..although I see what you mean about the shape being similar to something more modern. I hope someone who knows vintage jewelry will pipe up on this one. Breezie, are you out there? Lovely, and hopefully lucky clover design- nice find:icon_thumleft:

I will try to get a pic of back. At the depth I dug it, I'm not so sure it is modern, the clasp style is throwing me off too, I have never seen a clasp like that on modern stuff. But im not an expert. I will try to get some closeups uploaded later. Got to mow the grass. 😞

I noticed the tongue/ clasp too , by modern I m meant not underground RR age , aside from the tongue the piece looks like 1950's and newer!

Here are some better closeups under my photo lamps...I wasn't thinking this buckle was as old as the house(1860's)...my gut feeling was Victorian...hopefully these closeups can help ID...if not, thats okay...I like it and will go into the display case...
Thanks again!

Seems to be too many soldered points, that whole clover is soldered on and the cutout behind is not finished ( to sharp IMO ) not to mention the whole crossbar mounting and the toungue looks soldered too, it's very crude! But that doesn't equate automatically to Age for Me! Anybody have any clue what this could've been used for? All the old buckles I can think of where made with the quality and craftsmanship of a jeweler or tool maker ! The gilding is throwing me off i guess I'm to used to seeing stuff silver plated! Where's Beezie?

That's a beautiful buckle. The style looks very 1920 ish or older to me.

Is it possible this is a piece of tack? Perhaps a clover rosette?

It appears there's no way to attach an end of belt or strap so maybe it just slides over , if it was tack I could overlook the crude back under the filigree !
