Maybe farm related?

I believe that was part of the valve assembly in a water pump.

Based on the verdigris present on the bottom, it looks like bronze? :icon_scratch:
It's very crudely cast, so I'm thinking it has some serious age to it.

Where do you live (e.g. Europe, U.S., etc)? This could help us ID the item. It looks more like lead to me based on color, almost like it had something brass next to it for a bit which gave it the small spots of green.

The remains of a drain plug? The rubber has rotted away. Note how the shaft is bent from being pulled by the chain...

Thanks for the replies! I found it in a field that may have been the backyard of an old house. Near it I found a brass skeleton key, flat button, hem weight and some globs of melted lead. It kind of rings when I lightly bang it, so bronze or brass sounding. I like the drain plug and water pump ideas.

Those drain plugs do not have metal in them though!
