Brass container with eagle on it

I found this container the morning I'll look for the other half of the lid this weekend. Has an eagle on it. 1800s farm condederate troop camped near.

Eagle brand chewing tobacco tin. Just a guess. Could be any tobacco tin that held little bags of tobacco and papers.

The early cigarettes were non-filtered and much shorter. (2")
