It’s got partial letters on the back but can’t make out what it could say

The small diameter and the distance from the door plate (once mounted) wouldn’t allow for much of a knock, IMO. I agree that it appears quite heavy for a brooch. A drawer pull for a buffet door, etc would make sense to me. I agree with gunsil.

I hadn’t seen this type of mount/striker before. that may be right, but I’m still struggling with the small size. I doubt if I’d answer the door, wouldn’t hear that little tap.
