I found this Brass Eagle Plate at a 19th century house site. It's 8.5" X 5.5". It has mounting holes on each side. Any clues???? Dave

may have been a trunk adornment...killer piece IMO

Awesome piece. I surface found one a few centuries ago. We figured it was mounted on a piece of furniture.
