Hello everybody, I recently got the chance to hunt a field where we found civil war artifacts scattered in with a house spot. Believe the house spot is civil war era up to the turn of the century as we have found artifacts ranging around those dates. Among such items was this brass piece, with an eagle on top, and perhaps a drum in the middle? It is very solid brass. Ofcourse hope is it’s military but it could easily be a furniture piece or something along those lines. Do not see any place for a pin like for a brooch or hat pin but that is a possibility aswell. Any help would be appreciated

Cool piece. Perhaps there was a center pin for attachment and it has broken off. Likely some of our knowledgeable members can be more informative. Hat emblem?

Kinda sorta looks like it could be a Knights of Maccabees medal?

It sure looks like the tent depicted on their medals.

With the hole at the top it could be an escutcheon. Not sure of the age. Still a great save!

My mother had something similar to one of these on our wall many years ago. Lucky horseshoe with an eagle on top. Ours was painted black and probably cast iron.
