Brass Military Insignia?

Hello all - dug this brass insignia Saturday.. we know what it is, obviously, but I was hoping to get a more specific idea of what branch, era, etc. I'm pretty sure the eagle's legs have been broken off, but when they were on there, they were probably grasping arrows and branches like you see on the other insigina. It has a screw-on back with the gear-like edge. Any help is much appreciated.

That is the Great Seal Of The United States Insignia which dates from 1902 to preset

This is an Officers Cap Insignia (E pluribus unum), US Army from WWII.

FYI,
The E pluribus unum is also the national emblem
