✅ SOLVED Brass object for leather?

We went back to one of our new CW sites. I found this small brass object that appears to be some sort of leather end piece but for what I don't know. The site has a lot of history and goes back to the early 1800's. Thank you as always for any insight.

Wing divider top piece? Calipers?

I believe we have a winner. I compared it to the one my dad left me and the design is virtually identical.
