Brass piece that stumps me, reposted with better pics

I found this in a dual use Civil War camp near the Battle of Pea Ridge in Arkansas. It may, of course, be from a later date than that.

It is three inches long. It is brass. It was hinged on one end with a screw type "stop" and the other end is more worn from use and also has a hole for another hinge for attaching something.

It is stamped with what appears to be "665" although that's debatable.

It resembles a european cabinet hinge. Possibly an early example.

I think it is part of a gun , I think I see stampings or makers marks part of a sight ?? need a close up

I am enclosing a couple more pics of the number stamps, although they are hard to read. This area that I am hunting is large and I have found literally hundreds of bullets and lead, a pewter CSA buckle - at least 3/4 of it, tompion, harness buckles, an 1853 3 cent piece and best of all an 1858 1/2 dollar that is beautiful and looks almost newly minted. Interestingly, I also found a muzzle cover for a Prussian rifle made in about 1820 and exported to the US for use in the war - a man in Germany bought it who also wrote a book on the gun - his email says it was "The musket is the Rifled Musket from the German State Sachsen-Weimar" so there were several different types of gun used here. Also I have found part of a cannister shot, a confederate Borman Fuse, and a cannister ball. SO - lots of stuff here from the war. But also not far from a village that was founded in about 1850.

If it's a gun part, I'd say it goes to a percussion cap.

I actually thought of the telegraph key myself but can't find a match. The cartridge press is intriguing and may be a match - I'll do more research.

Typically an adjustment screw will adjust towards a sealing or affected surface. This being the case..it appears...to me that it would be up. Cool find!
