Brass plate

I found this old brass plate today in a field that has yielded lots of nice C.W. buttons, but I doubt this piece is that early. Looks like a lockplate off an old trunk to me, except the keyhole doesn't look right. Made of heavy gauge brass with more holes than Swiss cheese! Any thoughts on identification?
