Thank youThis may have been a wear surface for a vertical, sliding shaft. Possibly on a larger-bore pump. One would be pinned to each opposing side of the shaft. It allows for less friction and longer lifespan on such equipment.
This allows an iron shaft to be used with only the bearing surfaces needing to be the more expensive brass.
I’m not certain of this, but it very much reminds me of ones I’ve seen years ago.
