British 9lbs cannonball?..help

I found this today and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a sprue mark or a fuse. The mark is opposite of the mold seem. I don't have access to a scale for few days but it feels like a solid shot. It's around 4 inches and clearly has the British arrow

GreenMtnDigger asked for my opinion. It is the pressure-release vent's mark from the casting mold... definitely not a fuzehole. Nor is it the moldfiller sprue. The mold's filler-hole was always on the seam created by the two halves of the mold.

Please do tell us the ball's exact diameter and precise weight (in pounds-&-ounces) when you get that information.

Thanks for the response. My caliper is to small but with the rope method I came up with 4.08 inches. Ill try and get it weighed tomorrow.

Very cool find! I love seeing broad arrow marked finds. I hope you dig more cool relics like this to share with us. 8-)

Here's 2 more that I found recently. No broad arrows on these that I can see

Very Nice! I have a similar area, producing these British Balls. Of the lot, only one, a 6-pounder, has had the broad arrow. The larger balls, like the 18 and 24 pounder pictured in the foreground here have vent marks like yours.IMG_1541.webp
