as period (bone handled fork, tombacs, musket balls).
Has anyone found similar in Rev camps? Recognize this as something else? If this was a CW camp it would be accepted, but not sure about this.

Looks like a crown of sorts on the top.
Cool recovery.

Why do you think it might be unacceptable because it is a tiny bit earlier than Civil War? Chess as a game has been around in various forms for almost 2000 years, and bored soldiers have always carved, whittled, or whatever to occupy empty hands. It looks like a chess piece to me.

I never implied "unacceptable". What I meant was that game pieces are commonly found in CW camps. I can't find a reference to one being found in a Rev camp. So Im looking for conformatiin, or a differing opinion.

OK, sorry, you said "If this was a CW camp it would be accepted, but not sure about this." To me that implied unacceptable, my bad. Either way, it is a cool carved piece that is most likely a gaming token of some type, chess or not.

Almost looks like a sack of flour. Is that a rev war pewter button in the first pic?

The 4 hole button? No, plated. Guess war of 1812, as those buttons have also been found on this patch both British and US. The pewter found here has been blank, British 60th of Foot, and British Royal Provincials.

I didnt mean to come accross as rude. I meant that a few people have not accepted the notion this is a carved chess piece. Those same people wouldnt hesitate to acceot the idea this is a carved chess piece if this was CW.
