Broke into 1800's!... in the Most Rude Way ... 1865 Silver Dollar
A couple days ago things were pretty quiet at my local beach. I was using my PI and getting the deep stuff. Unfortunately most of it aluminum can bottoms and nails.
But then got this silvery disc in my scoop! YES ... my first Silver Dollar!! It was HUGE and felt real good in my hand.
My heart sank a little when I saw the date: 1865 and the curiously familiar portrait of George Washington. The reverse looked almost exactly like a modern Quarter. Oh No ... I yelled out "POOP" (not really that word..but gotta keep this relatively clean). I touched it to the magnet of my scoop and it stuck. Double POOP.
Researching into this I discovered that they're made in China. It's strange that they have "fac..simile" stamped on there because WHAT are they a facsimile of? They are imaginary coins as far as I can see.
So that Indian head at 1904 is STILL my oldest coin.
The top coin is a Silver Washington beach toast quarter.
