I found this today at the location where I have been finding all of the quartzite flakes...same spot where I found the quartzite knife and small quartz arrowhead.

Is this a broken or unfinished arrowhead or just a tease? If it is a point it is a very nice material...lots of color. Thanks for looking.

I think its just a flake o flint.

That's what I'm thinking but being still a novice at this I don't want to take any chances of throwing away a find.

Any differing opinions?

Afternoon,

Looks like a little cast off from point manufacture...worked, but not a point or broken point.
Pretty material though.

Lacking a percussion bulb I agree with Plehbah.

Tiz a spall, debitage (as atlantis suggested).

Bulb of percussion is broken off, but the compression rings and path of force is evident.

The discoloration of the material, and the appearance of conchoidal fracture without actually having any characteristics of an intentionally produced flake would make me think it is a fire spall.

I flintknap, and have to agree as well, as seems so do others. I have buckets of spalls similar to that (although from myself when knapping) although I have found a few in the streams in the Midwest as well where there are a lot of other points in the area. Find that one, more than likely some other worked material nearby... keep looking for more, they're more than likely close by.

Thanks for the replies...I'm learning tonnes here! Hope to have something post worthy real soon!
