This bronze spike was dug on an ocean beach in Northeast Florida. It was was found near where I found a 1 reale cob. The spike is naval bronze and looks hand wrought.

I was wondering if this could be part of a Spanish ship? Does it look like anything that anyone is familiar with?

Thanks for looking.

It most likely is Spanish, but everyone was using bronze spikes back then. I would say if you found Spanish coins, it most likely is from the same Spanish wreck. Keep working that area, especially after storms, or any thing that could erode or change the beach.

I'd guess that too.

Instead of taking time to research this though, I'd spend the time detecting your hot spot! You'll find your answer in the sand.

Agreed, a bronze nail from any old ship.

Thanks guys. I suspected it was old. I will be going back to my "hot spot" now, and, checking it periodically throughout the year as the beach changes. Thank you again for your input.
