Hey folks, been a while since I've posted anything here, actually been a while since I've found anything worth posting. This newest permission has changed that. My friend Randy and I hit this site today and last Sunday...last week Randy was the big winner with the beauty of a 1901 Barber quarter from New Orleans and 3 brass buttons. Today I crushed it with the 1889 Morgan Dollar...this place is infested with iron so we were only occasionally rewarded with clear signals. The Morgan was no exception, jumping and scratching but I was able to separate the grunts from the highs, flashing up to 95-96. The huge chunks of iron here would mimic those exact numbers, so I was very surprised to see that big, silver, reeded rim at 7 inches. I called (SCREAMED) to Randy...I said "big silver"...as he walked over he asked "a half?"...I said "no, bigger". Randy took live video of the extraction and subsequent cleaning (with my spritzer, of course), but it would be impossible to post as I would have to heavily edit the language! That high carried me through the day. The other pics include a dateless LC I dug, a stirrup and a couple spoons, Randy's 1863 Fatty Indian, teeny silver-plated buckle and a round Whatsit with 2 claws...any help on that one? Also included is a pic of assorted trash, we left behind the huge gears, cogs and chunks we couldn't haul out. I just noticed how crappy the cleaned Morgan pics are, I'll try to get much better ones up soon. Thanks for looking, Ddf.

I think on a lot of bucket lists. 1889 Morgan!! Fantastic!!

That's an awesome find! Big congrats!

Thx Roamer, I did forget to mention that the Morgan is an "O" mint...Ddf.

Big time find. Way to go on the big kahuna! Next stop; gold coin!

You can sure tell it's spring. The good stuff is rolling out of the ground everywhere. Congrats on the Morgan. My dad used to tell me Miss Liberty on the Morgan is so ugly that is has to be Morgan's wife. Gary

Congrats on the excellent finds! Finding a morgan will definitely brighten your day!

Thx Washingtonian, funny thing is...I never really had a Morgan on the radar...I figured I'd find a gold coin before I'd dig a Morgan! Thx for looking...Ddf.

Exactly Todd! But to tell the truth, we hunted in 31 degree weather all day, with steady snow flying, after being almost 60 Saturday. Lol...Ddf.

Awesome finds and congrats!

Wow! Digging a Morgan must have been a huge thrill! Congrats

To say the least! After things calmed diwn, I couldn't find my field shovel...I had tossed it about 15 feet away into the briars...lol. When I saw the rim I yelled at Randy and just walked away. Ddf.

very nice! would love to find one of those one day.

Awesome hunt with some big silver, congrats! :occasion14:

Holy Cow! you must have had to look twice and rub your eyes on that one! Totally awesome huge silver! Still hoping but not seeing one yet. love that stirrup too!

I didn't expect it myself, TP, which is why I was so surprised...keep looking! Remember: location, location, location...Ddf

Thx Prof!! I've got to see your great finds, now it was my turn! Ddf

What a nice hunt. It be great to get one of those magnets on a crane to get rid of that iron. Beautiful coin to find!

Thx Looter...surely was a shock to the system. We'd dug some Indians and a Barber quarter just didn't seem like the place that would produce a Morgan. Ddf

Congrats on that honking big silver!!!!
