Hey folks, been a while since I've posted anything here, actually been a while since I've found anything worth posting. This newest permission has changed that. My friend Randy and I hit this site today and last Sunday...last week Randy was the big winner with the beauty of a 1901 Barber quarter from New Orleans and 3 brass buttons. Today I crushed it with the 1889 Morgan Dollar...this place is infested with iron so we were only occasionally rewarded with clear signals. The Morgan was no exception, jumping and scratching but I was able to separate the grunts from the highs, flashing up to 95-96. The huge chunks of iron here would mimic those exact numbers, so I was very surprised to see that big, silver, reeded rim at 7 inches. I called (SCREAMED) to Randy...I said "big silver"...as he walked over he asked "a half?"...I said "no, bigger". Randy took live video of the extraction and subsequent cleaning (with my spritzer, of course), but it would be impossible to post as I would have to heavily edit the language! That high carried me through the day. The other pics include a dateless LC I dug, a stirrup and a couple spoons, Randy's 1863 Fatty Indian, teeny silver-plated buckle and a round Whatsit with 2 claws...any help on that one? Also included is a pic of assorted trash, we left behind the huge gears, cogs and chunks we couldn't haul out. I just noticed how crappy the cleaned Morgan pics are, I'll try to get much better ones up soon. Thanks for looking, Ddf.

The Morgan cleaned up real nice. That silver would get me screaming and yelling too. I also like the stirrup. Sounds like you had a great day. I’d go back for more. Congrats!

Congrats,

Yes they are a huge excitement when they come up. I found 4 a few years back in a cluster. I dropped a half dozen F bombs in the video.

They are out there and I've found about 8 or 9 of them in 25 years.

Congrats on the bucket list big silver DDF. I have been fortunate enough to have found 3 of those babies, and trust me, it never gets old digging them. Great find.

Thx Hawks! Truth is, the only cleaning done was when I spritzed it off fresh out of the hole, if you look close on the reverse you can see dirt...sometimes on a silver find I pop it in my mouth for a quick spin cycle...but I'd probably choke on that unit! Ddf.

Thx Inspector Detector, yes...a great hunt it was...dug it in the 3rd or 4th plug of the day. Sure made the rest of the hunt nice with an ounce of silver already in my pouch! Ddf.

Yes, 2 of them were actually found about 5 feet and a few minutes apart. I'm looking for my first Peace Dollar though. That one is still on my bucket list. Guess I got the hard ones out of the way first !

My Peace Dollar was a wierd fluke...at first I found a bunch of buttons from a jacket or coat, a handful of medallions and trinkets, all WWII era, fairly shallow followed by the silver dollar, shallow too. I'm 99% positive that all these items were in that coat...im just not sure how/why it was there. Ddf.

Thx very much VDI, just keep digging, digging, digging. We had been to this site once before and had spread ourselves out to the outer areas beyond the foundations. With the iron present here, and with chunks as big as a grapefruit, it was definitely not easy pickins. I was just hoping for a (first) Seated coin, so the surprise factor was high. Ddf.
