I never thought I would find one of these but I knew they were around! This is a really toasted Phoenix button. I picked this up from a midden that is being washed away by the river and tides. It has the added attribute of having been pierced and used as a pendant. It is a bit hard to see but this was the best light I could get on it... figure that the hole is at the bottom of the bird.

Sweet find! May I ask would that have had a shank on the back of the button? Were they hand made by the natives out of copper? That's cool for sure.
 

yes it did have a shank... these buttons have an interesting history. Here is the short version.

 

Cool! They’ve been found in my area, Santa Cruz. It gives me something to keep my eye open for when I’m out just looking around! Great info!
