golden 1...great find & what a nice restoration job and display!

Nice job on framing the 1700s buckle! HH, Mike

Your restoration came out fantastic. It is tough to find those iron shoe buckles in any kind of condition. I bet your was silver plated at one time in it's life. That is a great find.

I believe it to be copper-alloy, probably brass with iron residue stuck to it.

I wish I could get a whole one, but doing ploughed fields means lots of bits....

Nice find gotta love those old home sites !

Golden 1, you did an amazing restoration on that buckle. It looks great. Wanna share your method?

As you know, most of the colonial buckles found around here come out of the ground in the condition like the one in your 'before' pic, or even worse. I would give anything to have my buckles look like the one in your 'after' photo... Though, I must admit that I have never really tried to 'restore' one. Think I'll have to give it a shot now !!!!

Nice job with the frame box too !!!
