Buckle from 1800s home site

I dug this at a 1800s home I've been hunting. I don't think it's a belt buckle but I really have now idea. I'd love to know more about it. Thanks for looking.

That looks like it might have been something used to adjust the length or tension on a harness

Yea Once in a while being an old dumb farmer is to my advantage .It also gets me on places to dig or metal detect.
