Found this iron buckle today - never seen this type before. Has colonial tack look to me but who knows? What is the purpose of the center hole which is 5/8” deep?
The other ( brass) buckle was found near the first and looks like a strap adjustment type.

Appreciate the input in advance. HH folks.

Think the first one is the inside of a shoe buckle

Not sure on the broken one but pretty sure on the 18th C Spectacle Buckle.
Although spectacle buckles were around for hundreds of years I convinced this larger style is to do with an 18th C Military sling buckle. I found one the same in the back garden of a large 18th C manor house. (the earlier ones tended to be bronze not brass)
