Hi,

I found this metal detecting a few years ago in my backyard. My house is from the early 1800's. It was all black when I dug it up. There are no marks but it cleaned up like silver. It measures 1 7/16" at the widest point and 7/8" high. Any ideas?? Here are a front and back photograph.

Nice find! Looks like the slotted half of a fancy late 18th or early 19th century neck stock clasp.
