Nice find... I don't think buckle though.

With that smooth clean back and kinda thin material (brass?) it looks more like a decorative piece... maybe the backplate to a drawer handle or something?

Turned it upright and it kinda looks the front end of a suspender clasp. The rest would attach through the two square holes. Maybe anyway.

Agreed does look like a buckle, but not sure what it is.

Not a light switch plate...old light switches had 2 round push buttons.

It has a little slice cut out and an angled notch beside that. Appears to be there on purpose,no break or rough marks.

In the picture it looks like it has two green marked areas where it may have been fixed?? Top left, & bottom left of the object.

Good eye! Maybe had a loop or part of the buckle brazed on there...
