Buckle?

Found this at a site where we've found several military buttons (War of 1812 Artillery) and other colonial relics. No idea what kind of buckle or piece this is. Cleaned it up and hope someone can id it. Thanks for looking and as always any input will be greatly appreciated.

Great find! Looks like a spectacle buckle. If it is, that buckle would be from the 1600's to early 1700's. A straight on photo of the front of the buckle would help a lot. Also, is it made out of iron or brass? That info would help as well.

Thanks Freebirdtim. It is iron. Very rusty when it came out of the ground. Thanks for your input!

The offset bar is the type used on horse tack, being made of iron would suggest a date of 1900's... :thumbsup:
