Got out today with Rick and swung that detector untill my arm was ready to fall off, I got some good finds so I guess it was worth it.

A nice knee buckle, at least I think it's a knee buckle, several buttons, some tombacs, pewters and blow-hole pieces one with some guilding still on it. Plus 5 completely toasted coppers along with a 1947 nickel and a hockey puck.:icon_scratch:

Ricks trade axe was the find of the day for sure.

What the puck!

Funny how some modern finds show up out on the fields(probably came out with the manure spreader)

Some good ole finds there! Buckle looks more like a shoe buckle frame

Nice assortment! That's my kinda hunt

It was worth it Dave just for the potential, any one of those coppers could have been ?, even if we both need shoulder replacement surgery. (laughing)

I agree shoe buckle, direction of hinge pin, and curvature. Which I though was find of the day as I wanted one for so long, only having a couple of broken pieces thus far.

Funny how our coppers for the most part (75%) are toast, just seen a post with three coppers, all great shape (head scratch). So yours are 5 for 5 completely toast ? You know if you can't see something right off the bat out of the ground on them, you know it's not going to be good.

Nice finds Dave...any place you dig a shoe buckle you know you have potential!

1 casper2Z.webp IT'S BETTER TO GET TOASTED COPPERS THAN NO COPPERS AT ALL

a lot of ours get toasted because yrs ago they started using liquid fertilizer - farmers that use that stuff - kill all the coppers

Your very much in the range of digging something that really puts the smile on the mug, and to forget about the aches and pains. I could see finding a puck in a field low flooded area that froze and there was enough surface ice to play a little.

Oh! The good old Detecting game,
Is the best game you can name;
And the best game you can name,
Is the good old Detecting game!

That's a good one, someone should make a song. I use to know of a guy from Skinner's pond that was good a song writing. I think his name was Tom.

I don't thing that these coppers would have lasted another 50 years before they turned to copper dust. That fertilizer is nasty suff on copper that's for sure.

Poor ole Tom is on that big detecting field in the sky now (rip) but all his words of wisdom live on with us

Very nice finds Dave, congrats on the shoe buckle! :occasion14:
Better to find a toasted copper then no coppers at all eh!

Terrible how Canadian musicians like Rita and Tom don't get the recognition they deserve until they're gone! :dontknow:

I heard that Clint eastwood was going to be doing a move about ole Stompin Tom but it turned out to be an April fools joke some media group put out. Bummer, I am sure it would have been a good one.

That doesn't sound like a very funny April Fools joke to me!
I think Tom's life would make for a great movie, maybe the CBC will make it! :laughing7:

Sorry I missed this post earlier Dave, but just happened to come across it this morning. To confirm what others have said, yours is definitely a plain Georgian shoe buckle that likely dates to the last half of the 18th century. Still a very nice find as are your other recoveries. Good luck next time out ..... Bill

Thanks Bill, I have to clean up my finds from yesterday and post up a new thread. (got a cool Tombac)
Dave
