Got another mystery item. Looks like Buffalo Bill to me, but I can't find any examples of it yet. Looks like it was melted on the bottom. Anybody recognize what it is? 20201203_113348.webp

It’s a novelty pin tray or trinket tray with a cavalier face, his hat forming the ‘dish’. The one on the left below is by Sampson Mordan & Co of London, made in 1904, but cheap brass and plated copies were made well into the 1950s, like the one on the right.

Set a timer beside him and if he starts to choke after 45 minutes he might be a member of the Buffalo Bills.

I'm thinking more Cavalier than Wild West.

Man ... I gotta admit this one took me for a ride.
I tried many things and finally one site hinted at where my search finally led.
There's got to be more to this, yet.

Is anyone else seeing what I think I'm seeing ?
(cavalier is close) ?

Yes... I think these things started out being sold as pairs, with one representing Charles I and the other representing Oliver Cromwell (ie 'cavalier' and 'roundhead' in a sense). That connection and its significance tends to have been lost over time with generations of copies just focusing on the decorative 'cavalier' element and poor old Cromwell being dropped. They're usually sold as 'cavalier'. Here's a Victorian silver pair:

I was thinking "Little Debbie".
You know, if you just glance at it quickly and don't over-think it.... :)
