Hi:hello:

After being MIA for several days, it's good to be back on the forum; missed you all; computer had viruses and all screens were :BangHead:frozen. All is fine now.

Out today in the breezy, sunny, brisk weather...hunted dry sand at high tide ; found the "Buff" about 6 " down in dry sand. It was great to see the date on this one; most "Buffs" that I recover from salty beaches are very worn , and with either a faint date, or total absence of date due to erosion.

A couple of days ago, I was hunting the "muddy flats" and was pleasantly surprised to dig up a vintage lead toy soldier. What surprised me was that it was intact; the rifle was in position on a movable arm.

Not sure if it is British or French...the headgear is confusing to me. :icon_scratch:

The jacket has the "X" figure with buttons on either side.

It just needs a good paint job and I think it would look terrific.:hello2:

Maybe someone can help with the ID:dontknow:

Here is a link to info on the History of lead toy soldiers:

and here are some pics:

Thanks for looking.

Welcome back. Glad it was only the PC thought it might have been something worse.

Some nice oldies on you latest hunt. Always love to find the old lead toys. WTG

Welcome back - darn those computer viruses. The little soldier looked to be in great shape for having rolled around in the muck for quite a few years. I'll be interested to read what the experts have to say about him.

Some great finds again..
Love the soldier.

Nice finds Lorraine! I've found several buffaloes but cannot make the date out in any of them. Congrats

Like that toy lead man.....Very kewl, and a nice link on the history of...

Think I dug like 50 Buffs last year from the water and only a few have dates, a shame because they are such a Beautiful coin...

Wow Lorraine! Some great shots, love the soldier! Wish I could help. Never seen one like that.

That soldier is cool and in great condition...a buffalo with a clear date...congrats on some nice oldies.

Lorraine: Out of curiosity, my research on the internet indicates that the lead soldier may be part of a game set rather than a single toy to be played with. As the soldier is carrying a long rifle it dates him to the American Revolution or later. From the head gear he may be an instructor/student at an academy.

Sir Gala Clad,

Thank you so very much for researching and posting your results on this item.

I do appreciate it.

Great finds LO! Ray

Look up "Britains toy soldier"s. They made toy soldiers from many eras and armies from around the world. Google images has similar ones on page four, but if you search all of them I think you may find yours. There are a LOT of pages of Britains, they are the most prolific producer of toy soldiers.

Thank you for that info, gunsil; I'm going to check out those pages.
