BULL TABS ??
Every single one of you out there reading this have found, at the very least, at least ONE pull tab while pursuing this hobby. More than likely you’ve found uncounted numbers of the little nuisances. If “Life” is learned by the experiences we have, then it can be said that Metal detecting is Learned by the pull tabs we dig. I’ve found all kinds of tabs over the past few years that I’ve been detecting, big ones, small ones, fat ones, thin ones, drink can tabs, tennis ball tube tabs, Vienna sausage can tabs, oil can tabs, grease tube cans, colored tabs, some tabs you just can’t even identify. But today I dug up a tab that pretty much was a first for me. No. I know for a fact that it was a first for me. Some can designer had an epiphany it would seem. He/she has found a way to put their product’s logo on the very pull tab that people must pop to be able to get to their refreshment. Or so it would seem. A “BULL” tab? Has anyone else out there found one of these or even seen one of these yet?

Hello again everyone. Your old buddy Frodov here again to spin my tales of my adventures in metal detecting. Today was a gorgeous day here in the Blue Grass State. (Kentucky for those of you who don’t know). The weather was mild, a little windy perhaps, but the sun was shining and hardly a cloud could be found in the big blue sky overhead. Today was my “day three” of my days off. With my job I work a twelve hour shift, three days in a row, and am off three days in a row. Well, today was day three (off) and I was determined to get out and enjoy this fabulous weather while I could, and, to get some detecting in too of course. After having lunch with my darling wife and seeing her off to her obligations for the afternoon, I jumped in my little white pick-up truck and headed to a park on the far side of town. It’s a smallish park as parks go in my little town, but it’s got a wide range of “activity areas” to choose from. Something for everyone, basketball courts, tennis courts, a fair sized woochipped tot-lot, a baseball field (if it’s a little run down from disuse), and several soccer fields. Today I would concentrate on one of the soccer fields. And, today, I would NOT be disappointed.

As you can see from this compiled “panoramic” picture the park I detected today (the Park DeJour) isn’t exactly huge. But the grass is mowed regularly by the City Parks Department, and the park sees a lot of traffic. All kinds of traffic it would seem. People, ATV’s , Parks and Rec Vehicles, “BULLS” <chuckle> and cars of all shapes and sizes. Here are a couple that I actually dug up alongside the one soccer fields I hunted today.

Race cars? One of them must have been awfully dang fast to have run off and left his wheels behind ! Not to worry though, I found a couple of other sets of wheels while detecting today too…

Sadly… I found more than just wheels today. I also found a Freakin’ Hellicopter! Or rather, what’s left of one. I guess that was one rescue that went badly, it looks as if the little thing crashed.

It’s always sad to unearth some remains of a thing of beauty.. be it a car, an aircraft, a boat.. but sometimes you uncover a thing of beauty that isn’t damaged or ruined. Oh sure, perhaps they are a little soiled or dirty, perhaps tarnished even. Like a little Indian Maiden and her papoose.

Got to love those dollar coins! And you can see the one and only Wheat Penny I found today too. It’s been in several of the pictures you seen up to this point, and will star in several more yet to come as well. 1941. Cool.
As with anywhere you go, anywhere you detect, you find “Stuff”. You know, pull tabs, nuts, bolts, rivets, disposable lighter parts, key tags, and crushed “strainers”?

… and then you have to other stuff.. things like KEYS, Dog Tags, and Vampire Clips. What? Yeah.. Vampire Clips…

You know, those little clip thingies that come with the ace bandages that are supposed to “hook” into the fabric of the bandage and keep it from unwrapping. They have FANGS! Like VAMPIRES! Don’t believe me? See if they won’t draw blood! Uh Huh. You DO know what I’m talking about don’t you!
Average finds, not unexpected on an athletic field, not unexpected in any park at all actually. But there was one find today that has me stumped. Well sort of. It would appear to be brass, under the veneer of tarnish and dirt after having been buried for however long it’s been there. Whatever it is it was made in England, so it’s come a long way to end up in my little park in Lexington Kentucky. Anyone have a clue as to what it might be?

.. I’m leaning towards some sort of bridal or saddle tacking. You know, for horseback riding. Hey! This IS Kentucky after all! Horse Capital of the world!
World capital or not, today was a CAPITAL day for me. Capital as in monetary collections. With my little Indian maiden, the total clad recovery for the day, all three hours of it, was a little over $13.00 U.S.

COOL! Another healthy little deposit into the vacation fund. Or perhaps it will be used towards some holiday gift giving. We shall see. At any rate it was a “Capital” day indeed! Wonderful weather, nice finds, and very very relaxing. I hope you all got to get out this week, or will get out sometime soon and enjoy yourselves as much as I did. OR MORE! <grin> As always..
