Dug this next to a now defunct tree. I dug a lot of lead bullets nearby as if someone a while ago was shooting in to the tree. This thing is quite different, however. The diameter of the lead varies between 0.71 - 0.74 inches, has some odd "packing" material, and a screw within the packing material. Any ideas?

looks like a shotgun slug, but I have no idea why it would have packing and a screw.

Brenneke type shotgun slug. Attached material serves as a wad to seal gasses and to stabilise like a badmitten birdie.

Like I've said before... Learn something new on TreasureNet everyday...

I new it was a shotgun slug and what looked like a wad attached with a screw,
but I had NO idea that that is how it was manufactured.
Thank you broadening my narrow mind.
