I was detecting around some old homesteads in the mountains. There is a small spring behind one of the cabins that is overgrown with greenery making a nice cool shady spot in a place with no real cover for quite a ways. As I worked around to the back of the cabin near the spring, I heard sticks cracking and a large animal was moving out of the bush. This giant startled bull moose appeared not 30 feet away, obviously not too happy that I pushed him out of his nice cool bed. He trotted away down the path and towards a distant patch of trees, disappearing among the rolling hills.
