I found these buttons a few feet from each other. They are FD (fire department) buttons with a Burton Pierce Co. Boston back mark. I have found similar buttons on eBay but the back mark included "N.Y. Boston Chic." whereas my buttons only say Boston. The other odd aspect that I have never seen before is that both button have a removable wire ring through the shank. I have never seen this before. Anyone know anything about why these rings were used? I thought maybe they were installed to hold the new buttons on a card.

Very nice buttons. Big so probably coat buttons. Congrats.

Thanks! Anyone know what the wire ring is for?
