This came folded up out of the ground at an old homesite, unfolded and cleaned it up a bit. Any ideas to what it is?
 

Looks old appliance-ish to me.

There was a Buser Silk Company in Johnstown and Allentown, PA established in 1911. Later ribbons in Paterson. NJ.

The "B" and the "E" from the ribbon era look the same as yours.

I agree. I think Charlie got it.
I think this held small threads of yarn, or something like that.
I vaguely (as in very, very vaguely) recall seeing these before - but I would never have got there without Charlie's assist!
