I have the Garrett GTI-1500. It works. I like the balance and when it sings to me I know the words.

But...I don't like where they put the earphone plug. No matter which earphones I use, I am always getting tangled and tugging the phones off my head.

So, what one thing would you change about your MD? No matter how good the machine, there must be one thing you think could be better.

Griz,

My everyday machine Tesoro DeLeon is fairly light and well balanced.....however....on long hunts it would be nice to hip mount the control box to take the added weight off....some machines allow for that others not.

GrizLeeBear,
Try a pair of TDK wireless headphones, model # WR700. I purchased mine from newegg.com and should you purchase them from newegg first check their site for a dollars off coupon as they often have them. The TDK's work fine on my GMT and XLT machines, no time lag in the signal to coil position on the ground.

I would have it so that all detector control boxes could be easily carried on a chest or waist harness that makes ergonometric sense out of carrying the box/screen other than on the rod. Yes they would need to re-engineer the machines configurations but those of us with shoulder/arm injuries would have a much easier time using the product.

On the GTI-1500 the control box stays mounted, but you can remove the battery pack for hip carry.

I will look into a wireless set. How do you mount something not really designed for a MD to the box?

Griz,

I can't remember the site....but there's one out there would specializes in detector mods.....maybe someone will jump in with the answer.

I use adhesive backed Velcro. TDK WR700 are good but if you have a silent search machine, beware that they shut off after a bit if they have no audio input (built in feature to save batteries).
I have them for my Sov GT (threshold machine) but won't use them on my Vaquero (silent search).

On my Vaquero, I ran an extension cable to the end of the rod (by the arm cuff) to plug my earbuds into. It keeps the cable out of the way so I don't yank the phones out of my ears anymore.

Griz,
It is very simple - with a wireless setup have a transmitter box plugged into the headphone plug hole on the box and the earphones are on your ears.

197_9752.webp In this picture you are looking at the back of the control box with the arm cup above it. The TDK sending unit is looking at you and the 90 degree angle adapter plug (mini plug to 1/4" plug adapter) goes between them to make a cleaner hookup instead of with a straight adapter so the sending unit sticking straight out from the back of the box. I usually tape/rubber band or use some other method to hold the receiving unit from swinging down AS I've not made the right angle plate yet to bolt to the box to hold the sender up. And that Good Sir is the answer to your question but everyone has their own ideas of mounting 'stuff' to the detector box so come on folks share some thoughts!........63bkpkr

Ism, thank you I was not aware of that. And the Velcro is AWESOME..........63bkpkr
