Hi,
There is an old Butterfield stage coach company carriage house on my son in laws property here in Texas. We were searching the dirt floor this afternoon and found this large Chinese cash coin or charm coin. At first I thought it was a piece of junk, but my son-in law cleaned it off and found out otherwise. It is 55 mm across, any help with the age or complete identification would be appreciated. Good hunting, Kane 23

The reverse is right side up,a dragon and a Phoenix, not sure which side is right side up on the obverse...Kane 23

Sorry, I couldn't make out what was on the reverse. (You would die laughing if I told you what I thought it was.)
OK. A phoenix and a dragon.....I'm going to get my books. Have a possible fix on it.
The obverse is exactly upside down......180 degree turn will do it.....but don't really have to see it right side up. Was
thinking mostly about the reverse.
Be right back.

Well, I looked.....and no-go in any of the coin books that I have. (My refs. are Hartill, Cast Chinese Coins; the Lockhart Collection of Chinese Copper Coins; and Schjoth, Chinese Currency.)
In Hartill, page 438, it does have a reference to the reverse characters. I quote: ".......Dragon and Phoenix, symbols of imperial power and matrimonial alliances."
I would say that, about 99% chance, this is not a coin. It is a charm, or a fantasy piece. Fantasy, not to be understood as
illegal or not real, but something like a good luck piece.
The four Chinese characters are not the name of any king, but refer to different things that might bring you good luck, or are
words for things that you would want good luck in.
The bigger, the better......and more valuable.
Wish I could be of more help.

Thanks for all of the effort, I believe your right it is a charm piece, still it was something unexpected, love detecting even after 40 years....Kane 23

That is by far the largest Chinese cache/coin I've ever seen. Kudos!

After some research,I've decided your all mostly right, it's a marraige charm from around 1700, The dragon represents a man and the phoenix a woman, the symbols on the other side are marriage blessings, still a nice old piece...Kane 23

Dang right it's a nice old piece. I don't know what it is but I bet there's not many around.

Nice find kane23.
