Button 1780??? What do I have here? Never seen anything like this?

Any experts out there? Dug this in Central Va pretty deep on civil war site. Is this a button? It looks like it has 1780 on it and words around rim with design in middle. Hoping I have a cool relic here. Thoughts?

That is very cool! Almost looks like a coin that was made into a button, but the rear looks like it is a two piece button of some sort.

This coin type was a popular coin to copy & use as a coin style button. 20th C. (Early most likely)
