Hope its real congrats on a nice find.

Very hard to tell. If real, I wouldn't expect the face to be pitted quite like that. Is the shank iron or base metal?

If real probably $500-$1,000 to the right person. Not quite 10 years ago probably $2,000+.

I don't think I'd get excited quite yet.

Why wouldn't this be real? It was found 10 inches down in a known Rev. site and it has the right oxidization for a 200+ year old button.
Looks good to me! Nice find!
Dave.

The shank, somewhat bothers me, but I think you may have a real one :-\

It's best judged by someone who knows these buttons very well. It's not so much how deep it was dug, or the condition, it's how it's made that's the most important.

i was able to show the button to a state archie
he was impressed with the button
and said this is one of the best repro's i have ever seen
the only thing thats shows its a repro is the weight its way to light
but great button never the less

Glad you found the truth, it was very convincing, but as some thought the shank was all wrong. Congrats for your honesty on the forum & sharing how good repro's have become :P

Too bad... that would have been a good one. I am glad you posted the result even though bad.
