As Trk5capt notes, it does bear some resemblance to the North Carolina "starburst" buttons. It's also quite similar to certain military buttons of Peru. However, this particular design— starburst on lined field, with five-pointed star in center— seems to have been a stock pattern produced for general use, rather than an official design. In fact, a version with a wide, plain rim is still offered by the Waterbury Button Co. as a "fashion button" in three sizes and 25 finishes:

thanks i knew yall would do it again yall are good! im hoping finding out this stuff will tell me what i can expect out of my yard with coins and stuff too
