button help needed

i found this button in the woods where i have found some Indian cents. the back seems to read, JACOB REEDS SONS PHILA although the 2nd word "REEDS" is hard to make out. i assume it is a civilian button but can anyone put a date on it?

thanks guys! i was able to find info on JACOB REEDS SONS. apparently this manufacturer dates the button to the 1880s. i didnt know about the police connection though! thanks again........Keith
