I just know I've seen this button before but I can't remember where.

Is it just a decorative or does the design mean something else?

reminds me of the buttons on most corduroy coats in the 1970's

Just a wild guess, but I don't think it is a button. That bar seen in the second shot would have no purpose in a button, unless it was to anchor the shank. But I haven't seen that done before.

To me it has the looks of an Arts & Crafts era thing that someone took longer than they needed to to add simple detail to. Is it copper? To take the time to rivet the little crossbars on there, just seems like that sort of thing, but I can always be wrong.

Probably 60S to 80s any with the steel back shank are more modern..+2 to what jeweler guy said..

Thanks folks. That's close enough for me. I might have had an overcoat with the very same design when I was a kid. Maybe that's what I'm remembering.
