dug this 2 piece button today at a late 1800's house site, house torn down before world war 2, looks to say PAL on it, back mark is Jacob Gminder, any help on what PAL stands for would be appreciated, thanks

It could be a Police Athletic League button. They have been around for 70 years and started on the east coast. I'm not saying that's what it is, but it might be....at any rate, I like it.

the back mark though post war well pre dates that association and house was torn down at least a decade prior to world war 2, and i think Gminder produced buttons only went through about 1898?

How sure are you that's a "L" at the end? That tail makes it look like it could be another letter.

Still nice!

Very nice---willl be interesting to find out its history.
