Civil war era?
The back is stamped Waterbury Scovills
Perhaps a replica?

The first Waterbury Company was organized in 1814, and it may be the one that marked the back of it's buttons. Another firm of the same name was formed by Scovills in 1849 for the production of "German Silver Goods” This button is extremely rare.

looks real at first glance. It would be a civil war dragoon’s.

I wonder how it ended up in the backyard of a home that no longer exists in Utah? Mystery

Any advice on how I might get it authenticated?
