Button needs identified

A friend found this button the lettering on the back sas new Design The horse on the front has it's tail docked and it had dual reins on each side. Any info would be greatly appreciated

Nice button. I can just make out the letters "NEW DESIGN" and expect that it will read "NEW DESIGNS", or quite probably "SPORTING NEW DESIGNS" if it could be read in full.

These are civilian "sporting buttons" which usually have some kind of hunting/shooting/fishing imagery (horses, dogs, ducks or whatever). The maker is uncertain but they're believed to be of British origin and c.1850s-1860s.
